Yesterday we took the kiddos to the new Rec Center in Washington. It was our first time there, and we LOVED IT! It was perfect for everyone! It's mostly indoors, opens up on the sides, but that way my little girl doesn't have to slap on the sunscreen but there is still that nice warm southern utah breeze that goes through. There's a lap pool right next to the main pool area. The main pool area for the kids is awesome. It's a gradual slope, and it's soft on the ground, so Shalyce didn't get a rash from crawling around. The slides/playground area was a riot! SOO much to do! Corbin loved the slide! He and Dave went down the larger spiral slide when we first got there, and after Corbin went under at the end he didn't want any part of that slide anymore! There was also a little "Lazy river" and a couple whirlpools. Shalyce was having so much fun, she forgot that she was sick! (She wasn't contagious, just grumpy). She did end up having a nap in Daddy's arms for about 10 minutes then BACK to the water for her! She was mad when they blew the whistle and we had to get out for 5 minutes! She was twisting in our arms trying to get down into the water again! Corbin wasn't so keen about the idea of buckets of water sporadically pouring on his head, so he would cautiously go up the stairs to catch a ride on the slide, trying to dodge the huge water bucket spills! Here's some video! He wasn't so lucky a few times!

Well, can you tell how often my legs see the sun? If you ever want the definition of "Farmer's Tan" look no further than me in a swimsuit! I even put sunscreen on my arms before I go out to ride or work with the horses! I'm a sunscreen fanatic, and I used to be a tanning bed girl, crisco & all, but, as they say, "leather" is not healthy unless you're stripped off a dead cow and let out to dry. I bet those polygamists never have problems with skin cancer? :) lol Well, don't be blinded by my WHITENESS, but DO make sure to take your kids down to the rec center, and call me when you go, cuz my kiddos would love to go anytime we can!

I know you're probably all thinking, "What in the world is she so concerned about naming a stinkin' horse!" As I read about other's lives in this blog world I have noticed that my little naming spree is so lame of a concern, it's fun to find a name, but frivolous! So I was thinking I have a horse named Licorice and he's black like black licorice and she is red, like TWIZZLERS! So, as soon as it hit me I LOVED it! So her name is going to be "Twizzler". I'm sure I'll shorten that up to "Twizzle" kinda like the way Snoop-Dog would pronounce it! FA-SHIZZLE TWIZZLE! :) Thanks to the Gatlins & Diana for trying to help me out, guess I am a red vines lover! My first horse's name was "Kookie"...must be a food thing!

Oh, and the vet confirmed 1 of my mares PREGNANT! So here's a sneek peek at what the first little baby that's expected around the 1st week of march 2009 to be looking like right now. :)Isn't this a cool pic! I'm sure hoping that my 2nd mare is pregnant, we'll find out in a few weeks. Hopefully both of these babies will have the curly hypo-allergenic coats!!!!

lezzy?

So I just received the red filly's papers and her papered name is "Carol's Partner Lady" (sounds like she's from San Fransisco, riding in the rainbow parades, huh?) Who in the world would name her that! Just switch the words around and it would say "Carol's Lady Partner"! Maybe "Lezzy" would be a good name! he he!

Dave told me to smile, so here's my cheeser!

This little raffle prize filly was won at a FFA raffle by Joe & Robbie, I had to rope her to catch her in a 10x10 foot stall...extremely afraid of humans that day. She came from a race farm, and who knows what mishandling led to her fearful behavior, but after being at my place for about a month she is SO much better! She's not a spook in any way, just not trusting of people. When I got out the plastic bags tonight, she didn't care at all! She plays on the tarp all the time, too! Too bad her previous handlers were knuckleheads! Anyway, she now has been following me around the corral, and I'm gaining her trust, and she's gaining my affection. :) Joe & Robbie said she could be mine if I wanted her, (since they need something older and more experienced for their kiddos, which is a smart move on their end), and at first I thought, NO WAY, I don't need another horse to feed! However, these last couple days she's acting like she wants to stay, so...my point is...this little filly needs a new name! SO give me a creative name, and if I use it, I'll send you a surprise in the mail! (I got that idea from Jen :) ) Think of something fun! Happy Name Hunting!

Let's catch up on this last week & a half...Let's go backwards while we're at it...STARTING NOW!!!!

How about this view from the porch swing?

Today, Sunday, Shalyce is sick with a fever and sore throat :( and we are home while our friends are up at the cabin. We had to ditch them because the little princess got sick yesterday morning. She was miserable. But she took some energy so she could sit on the bench with her Grandpa:)...

On the way up to Kolob, Shalyce entertained herself with my hat.
I think it's about time she gets her own to play with...

We took Duke up for his first year on the mountain. He didn't know what to do with himself! What are those scary rocks and all the sticks! AAHH!! He definately needs to be up there for a while to learn how to be a horse! No sissy horses allowed DUKEY! Here's video of him running around trying to find the other horses.

Okay, so I'm not going in order like I planned, cuz after we unpacked the truck last night, and put Shalyce to bed, I was playing around on the computer and wondered where the boys were..I look outside and they are having a BLAST on the dirt (which I am so excited about coming!! Now I think the boys will have more fun now before it's all spread out for the horses, should I spread it out or not??? They look like they're having more fun than I ever will!)And no, MOM, he didn't flip the 3-wheeler :) I don't know how I got so lucky to get that shot, but that was the only time that happened. If Dave felt it happening he'd pop the clutch and just slide backwards down the hill. It was pretty funny! Corbin didn't want that fun to end! Here's some video of last night on the JESSOP DUNES!

Going back a few more days...Shalyce and I went to go spy on the boys as they did their weekly ritual of riding the 3-wheeler down the road to the school to play on the playground. Corbin is equipped with my old equine helmet that is 10 sizes too big, but he looks cool anyway! He loves doing that with his daddy!

Now onto the Summer Games! Last Saturday the girls competed in the Utah Summer Games! Shaylee won a GOLD in her first summer games class ever! NO FAIR! GREAT JOB! Her horse, Jack, didn't even get a warm-up, he was in a new spooky indoor arena, and he acted like he'd been there a million times! Such a sweetheart! She was in a class of 7 other horses, too! SHe got 2 more silvers, also!

Ally rocked the party with Blitzy, doing very well with her collection. She took home a couple silver medals, I believe. Now if we could get that posture taken care of, she'll be picture perfect. Check out that mane braiding job! It's the first one that I've done that has stayed in all day long! Gorgeous, huh!

Megan did well, also! Chance is pretty as ever, all braided up, too! We're gonna work a bit more on his collection, then they will be picture perfect as well! Carlie and Licorice did very well together. And it's gonna get even better from here on out! Check out Licorice's long tail! When he's not moving it's dragging the ground!

Corbin is officially 5 years old today! YIKES! I know what it means when they say babies grow up too fast! I was a slacker mom and didn't plan out a party for him, which he didn't understand or care anyway (luckily) so I made a last minute texting to his aunts and uncles to bring their kids over for cake and ice cream. THE WONDERS OF TEXTING! He got a few tranformers, lots of spiderman stuff, and we bought him a "buddy saddle" that goes behind an adult's saddle. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, when I have more time to play around on the computer. :) Today I made it HIS day. I feel guilty sometimes always leaving him inside to go out with the horses for lessons etc. He doesn't like to go out when I am out, he doesn't like the heat :(. So today was nice with me giving him his undivided attention and a big "party" day. We decorated the room with twisted crepe paper, and baked 2 cakes, when to WalMart to exchange his transformer from my dad. At lunchtime, he said, "Mom, I like to be with you." That's a phrase that pulls on your heartstrings! I hope he's still thinking that 10 years from now :)This is the present he got from us...a "buddy" saddle, equipped with stirrups, cushiony seat and a handle. He saw this in a catalog a couple months ago and has been wanting it for a while, so he was pretty excited when he saw this all hooked up on Licorice's back tonight!

Dave actually got the real thing by himself when she walked from the piano to him at the table a few feet away. I didn't know that until after Dave called me into the front room and told me to kneel down on the floor. I didn't know why he was having me kneel, but then he turned SHalyce loose and YAY! She immediately walked 5 or 6 steps to me, then back to Daddy! So of course I hopped up to grab my camera to get some footage for keepsake. SO here it is! (This was Saturday June 7th, 2008)

Also, just for updating sake...We went to Rosemary's place on Thursday for Shaylee & Carlie to go to a little horse show. It was a way laid back event, and each rider competed in 4 events. A rail class, the Hurry Scurry, Barrel Serpentine, and a jumping class. I didn't know they'd be jumping and it was hilarious to watch Jack & Shaylee do their first jump course EVER together! It was a riot! Rosemary told me they would do a "pattern" class, but I didn't realize it was a JUMPING PATTERN class!!!! The poles were only a few inches off of the ground, but still, Jack hasn't always been one like his older brother, Cowboy, to want to voluntarily go over poles. Must have been that good training out in Kanab!! So Shaylee got a 5th, 4th, 3rd place ribbon in the prior events. She said to me before she did her jumping pattern,"I should just get a 2nd now...or maybe just a 1st!" In my head I"m thinking" yeah, right, Rosemary's students that you're competing against have been practicing this for forever" But I said outloud," Yep, keep it up, girl!" So, SHaylee, my NO FEAR girl, took her turn over the fences, and Jack did it like he'd done it a million times! Such a sweetie! Then the next thing I hear as I'm getting Carlie ready is "Shaylee got 1st place in jumping"!! GO GIRL! Here's some video of the last half of her pattern...

Now onto Carlie and Licorice...they are a new partnership as of Tuesday:). He took care of her so well, even though he can't move quite as quick on the forehand as the other ponies, he did make a quick move on Carlie's heart! They are a great match...Well Licorice goes from rounding up the cows one weekend, then the next weekend he'll babysit a little girl at a horse show. What an awesome ex-stud :)!!! I thought I had retired him from the show ring, but if it will make a little girl happy, then back to the show ring for you, LickiPOO!

Oh, and how about Corbin (AKA milk boy). We buy 5 gallons of milk each week and Corbin keeps us up to that standard. He now doesn't bother asking me for milk. He knows how to pour it himself, as seen in this picture. HOWEVER, this picture doesn't tell the whole truth. He PREVIOUSLY drank a FULL glass of milk just before topping this little cup off! Can a BOY GET SOME MORE MILK around here????!!!!
